Flores-Quake
On 15 August 2026, a powerful magnitude 7.7 earthquake struck the island of Flores, East Nusa Tenggara. The severe shaking triggered widespread destruction across seven regencies, causing severe damage to more than 103,000 homes, displacing over 52,000 residents, and claiming 142 lives.
In Kuwus Barat District, West Manggarai Regency, the disaster left thousands of families without a safe place to return to. Among them is Yofita Damul (37), a mother who now shares a single emergency tent with two other families, with nine people in her own household alone, including her children and sick mother.
"I am grateful that my entire family survived," Yofita said, recalling the moment she scrambled to evacuate her mother during the earthquake. "Our home is ruined, but our lives were spared. Now, all we hope for is a decent place to live again. We cannot stay in a tent forever, especially with young children."
